Alchemist by Paulo Choelo
“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
One of the most celebrated and hyped book around the globe and I dare say it deserves all of it. Alchemist by Paulo Choelo is a book about a shepherd who saw a dream that there’s a treasure for him in the pyramids of Egypt. Writer talks about the hardships he faces on the way to make his dream come true as he left in search of treasure leaving everything behind. The main focus of the book is on the great powers that universe holds and how universe help people in realizing their dreams. It tells how true love is liberating and it doesn’t stops someone from realizing his destiny. On the whole it is a motivational book which leaves its impact on you. Also it’s not so long so really a good start to make reading a hobby and habit.

The great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
“Let us learn to show our friendship for a man when he is alive and not after he is dead.”
A classic novel shedding light on American Dream. It’s a story of a boy who somehow acquires a great fortune and there are many rumors about him but no one knows how he got so rich. Gatsby is famous for the extravagant parties he throws. Daisy is the love of his life but after a brief affair with Gatsby she got married to some other rich man and later they met after many years. Gatsby still wants her but it’s all a materialistic game for her. In the end Daisy was driving the car and hit a woman, who was kind of her husband’s mistress, but she didn’t know. Gatsby do all his best to protect her. Later after a few days he’s found dead at his house. This story signifies that how human desires are never ending we’re always behind one thing or another and sometimes we do big mistakes in our passion but do we get what we want?

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hossieni
“A society has no chance of success if its women are uneducated.”
A thousand splendid Suns By Khaled Hossieni, one of my favorites. The story is set in Afghanistan, war time during the Taliban rule. It tells the story of strong Afghan women, talks about the hardships they faced and the courage they showed while facing them. How a girl was left behind alone in the war zone as her parents died , and how he ended up with a married and abusive man. How the both women show utmost bravery in fighting for their lives and then protecting their children lives. Writer also point outs that education is very important for the prosperity of a society and especially a woman’s education. The most favorite part of mine was the love affair of Tariq and Laila, how despite all odds he came back to her. Maryam’s story is itself a very tragic one but that woman stood strong against all difficulties and her character shows the strength and bravery of an Afghan woman. A tragic and worth reading story.

The diary of a Young Girl by Anne frank
“I don’t think of all the misery, but of the beauty that still remains.”
Diary of a young girl was a daily diary kept by a 13 years old girl Anne Frank. She wrote in it about the days she spent in hiding with her family and one other family with help of her father’s business friend in a secret annex at times of Holocaust as she was a Jew girl. How they survived their for two years and what difficulties they faced and how she missed the world outside etc. all were written by that young girl. And this book shows how even in that difficult time that young girl adhere to optimism and focused on good things rather than to cry over things which are not under her control. After this long period of hiding they were captured by the Nazi army and she died later at the age of 15 in a Nazi Concentration camp. This book is one of those simple books which make you feel gratitude toward the simple things in life which we usually take for granted such as Nature and Freedom.
